Pamoza means “together.” Inspired by the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” our work brings communities together across Delaware County and Malawi to create lasting change.

One of the most powerful ways we do this is through Pamoza’s School Partnership Program, where we bring global learning to life in local classrooms.

In 2014, we visited a 7th grade classroom at St. Anastasia School. Two students, Anna and Mikayla, were deeply moved by what they learned about life in Malawi. They decided to take action. In 2015, they organized the first Miles for Malawi walk, raising $1,200 to support one of our school breakfast programs.

That moment changed everything.

It showed what’s possible when students are given the opportunity to connect, create, and lead, and it’s why we’ve continued to grow our work with schools across Delaware County.

The impact didn’t stop there. Another student, Mackenzie, was inspired by Anna’s project and launched Girls Rise, raising $30,000 to support girls’ education in Malawi.

Today, Mikayla is a college graduate and a teacher in Delaware County. While busy teaching and coaching her own students, she continues to give back as part of our Miles for Malawi 5K planning committee, helping lead the very event she started as a 7th grader.

What began as one classroom experience has grown into a community movement.

Through assemblies, hands-on workshops, and interactive lessons inspired by the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, students explore innovation, resilience, and global citizenship. In one of our workshops, students even turn everyday discarded materials into inventions, connecting directly to the ingenuity of William Kamkwamba from Malawi.

This Delco Gives, help us continue that movement.

What started as a $1,200 student-led project is now growing into a $40,000 community goal through Miles for Malawi this year. Your support helps us sustain this momentum, inspire more students, and continue building meaningful connections between Delaware County and Malawi.
