What is Papoose Club?

The Papoose Club is a non-profit volunteer organization that supports youth-oriented groups in the Wood River Valley through fundraising activities and community events. Everyone is welcome!

The club was founded in 1954 by a group of local moms and was formally incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1975.

What is the purpose of the Club?

Essentially, Papoose Club provides important financial support to local organizations that serve children. We make it possible for kids of the Wood River Valley to grow up with access to a wide variety of activities. The Club’s mission is to promote and assist cultural, social educational and athletic activities for the children in the Wood River Valley.

What types of organizations receive funds from the Club?

Recent recipients inlcude Higher Ground Sun Valley, Environmental Resource Center, Blaine County Education Foundation, Girls on the Run, Sun Valley Youth Hockey, Nurture, The Mountain School, Hailey Ice, Wood River High School PTA, Wood River Arts Alliance, Woodside Elementary School, Bellevue Elementary School, Wood River High School, Wood River High School, Sawtooth Botanical Garden, Pioneer Montessori, Wood River Volleyball Club, YMCA, Girl Scouts, Hemingway Elementary School, Wood River High School, Blaine County Recreation District, St. Thomas Playhouse, The Hunger Coalition, Winter Feast for the Soul, Wood River Wrestling Club, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage, Learn Alpine Skiing And Racing (LASAR), and Sun Valley Ballet Foundation.

How does the club operate?

Meetings are typically held on the fourth Monday of every month (excluding December, June and July).

At each meeting, representatives of organizations requesting funds from Papoose Club make presentations outlining their needs.

 

What is expected of me if I join?

Members are expected to attend meetings as often as their schedule permits and commit to volunteering at two or more Club events per year. Annual membership dues are $20.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Wagon Days Pancake Breakfast

The Pancake Breakfast has been a favorite local tradition ever since Wagon Days was first celebrated. Club volunteers serve 1,500+ plates of pancakes, eggs, and sausage – all cooked outdoors in Ketchum Town Square.

Holiday Bazaar

This annual two-day event features a wide variety of arts, crafts, edibles and gift items from more than 50 vendors from across the Intermountain West. The Holiday Bazaar also includes a soup café, raffle table, a homemade cookie booth, and an annual visit from Santa!

The Plant Extravaganza

This event is hosted by Webb Garden Centers at their three Valley locations. Papoose Club volunteers assist customers with their purchases, and Webb graciously donates a portion of the day’s sales to Papoose Club.

 

COMMUNITY FUN EVENTS

This free ski and snowboard race for kids 13 and under is held at Dollar Mountain in March. All participants receive a commemorative patch and winners receive a medal.

Kindercup Downhill Race

This free ski and snowboard race for kids 13 and under is held at Dollar Mountain in March. All participants receive a commemorative patch and winners receive a medal.

Papoose Cup Nordic Ski Race

This free event for young cross-country skiers up to 13 years of age is held in February. Kids compete in skate and classic disciplines and all racers receive a cool Nordic ski hat!

New Members Meeting

This welcome party for new members is held in September. It’s a perfect time to meet current members of Papoose Club and learn more about the organization’s work in the community.
