Wherever you are on your journey, know it’s okay. It can have obstacles, but know you are not alone -we are here for you.

PFLAG = Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Officially, that’s our name, however, the name does not accurately represent what PFLAG is all about. Since PFLAG’s beginning in 1973, our vision and mission have grown and so has the diversity of the people we serve.

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender & gender non-conforming peoples, their families and friends through:

  • SUPPORT: to cope with an adverse society
  • EDUCATION: to enlighten an ill-informed public
  • ADVOCACY: to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights

PFLAG Yuma is nearly SIX YEARS YOUNG :)  We hold Support Meetings every 4th Sunday of the month, 5pm (at 281 W. 24th St, Suite 136A). We offer resources, opportunity to dialog, support, a speaker or program, post-meeting socializing and snacks:  all in a safe zone setting (no judging or disrespecting others). We reinforce Confidentiality. We also host friendship Socials. PFLAG gatherings are a place for people to be with other like-minded individuals.

Since PFLAG Yuma began in January 2010, we have accomplished great things: Provide support via emails, phone, in-person and on facebook; Provide resources and professional referrals; Helped Yuma LGBTQ youth attend Camp OUTdoors leadership training; Donated to local GSA student groups; Maintain a Scholarship; Visible at community events (parades, outreach booths, speaker bureau); Helped Sponsor the Dec 10 2012 Yuma Human Rights Event; Host fun Socials and holiday events; Helped sponsor Phoenix HERO Marriage Equality walk in Yuma; Participate in AWC's National Coming Out Day & Day of Silence events; Participate in World Aids Day events; Held public celebrations LGBTQ Progress (overturning of DADT etc); Organized Co-Founder/Yuma Human Rights Activist Michael Baughman's Life Celebration; we are the local Media go-to point for LGBTQ state and national happenings.

PFLAG Yuma attendees are LGBTQ'S and their family, friends; Allys; LGBTQ Human Rights-advocates & community professionals -all age groups & classes of peoples attend.

Our wish list: We need to buy LOTS more PFLAG printed resources -we give all those away for free; Our Scholarship needs funds; We want to help LGBTQ needs; We'd like to host more socials (BBQ's, Picnics; holiday events); we really need to replace our tattered PFLAG Yuma banners (they display in parades, outreach booths, at every gathering); we hope to buy advertising so people will know we're here and we can find more Volunteers.  MORE VOLUNTEERS!....We need more Volunteers to help us do our work.
