Partners in School Innovation has nearly 25 years of experience providing support to under-performing public schools and districts in urban areas. The organization was founded in 1993 by Julien Phillips, a former Peace Corps volunteer and McKinsey & Co. partner, and Kim Grose Moore, a Rhodes Scholar and social justice advocate. They wanted to create systemic improvements in low-performing public schools to close the achievement gap and deliver on the promise of equal opportunity for all. By bringing their passion and business acumen in facilitating change to education efforts, Kim and Julien set in motion work that is now becoming recognized as a national model for education reform that leads to positive long-term results for under-served students.

Partners fills a unique space in the education reform community through: i) our comprehensive, high-quality, shoulder-to-shoulder professional development; ii) equity-focused, results-oriented, continuous improvement approach; and, iii) a staff of education professionals who embody the principles and practices for which they strive.

We believe that the greatest moral, social and economic imperative of our generation is to ensure that every child receives a full opportunity to learn, grow and succeed in school. Our approach to school and district transformation is built on a strong foundation of theory and research, as well as over 20 years of experience as an education reform organization. Our staff work alongside our school and district colleagues to achieve significant gains in student achievement as well as build the organizational capacity required to sustain these results. In order to achieve our desired results, we support schools to develop practices and mindsets necessary to accelerate student achievement and achieve educational equity.
