Payson Area Habitat for Humanity provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families.

Working under the faith-based principle that no profit should be gained from assisting those in need, Habitat for Humanity charges no interest on the houses that it sells.

We are currently planning to build our 28th home in Payson. To accomplish this we need your help!

Payson is a community in need!

The mission of Payson Area Habitat for Humanity (PAHH) is to provide decent, affordable housing for low income families. In Gila County the area median income (AMI) in 2013 was $49,200. With the median value of a home in Payson at about $213,000.00, homeownership is unreachable for 38% of the population whose annual income falls below $35,000.00. In addition, the majority of a families’ income goes toward rent where, according to HUD, fair market rent for a 3 bedroom unit is $1,053/month.

These facts are dramatic but not surprising given Payson’s economic and educational circumstances. With no major business or industry; the majority of available jobs offer low wages, limited benefits, and no career ladder or method to improve one’s financial status. Access to education or technical training in this area is extremely limited.

Payson Area Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away program but a community partnership among prospective homeowners, businesses, tradesmen, grantors, individual donors and volunteers from all social, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds. Everyone is invited to lend a helping hand – whether skilled, “do-it-yourselfers” or novices – this enables many to learn new skills while maintaining construction costs at a minimum. Homeowners are offered “A Hand Up, not a Hand Out.”
