A Better Life - Peace Love and Animals

In September 2009, as a result of a growing number of homeless pets in the Limestone County area, Peace Love and Animals was started by three women dedicating to helping these pets find new and loving FURever homes.With a local pound that was high-kill and provided no help for rescues, the shelter began working from the ground-up within the county to educate, rescue, and re-home.

Our primary focus is always taking the best care of our residents and finding them amazing, loving homes. We strive to help out local animal control agencies by taking in special cases, such as Lily - a 12 year old beagle who had to have all her teeth removed due to infection and decay from neglect and malnutrition. Lily has since been adopted by an amazing couple and enjoys playing in the snow and riding in the car.

After the devastation caused by the tornadoes on April 27 of 2011, Peace Love and Animals committed to helping local residents by taking in any and all animals that were found, searching for their homes (if the home still remained), and - if their home could not be found - finding them new loving families. With the assistance of local retailer Anthropologie, we made these new loving homes a reality for over 15 dogs and cats.

Peace Love and Animals is not an open-admission shelter - this is why we can remain no-kill - but when we cannot take a dog in we try our best to help place it with another rescue, crosspost to find new adopters, or advise the current foster/owner on ways to keep the pet - including providing local food and funding assistance options.

Our goal coming in to the year 2012 is to continue to educate Limestone County and the state of Alabama about the importance of spaying and neutering pets, as well as the importance of taking good care of our pets. We also aim to continue to look for homes for our longer-term and special needs residents, in addition to the many puppies that show up in our care.
