Combatants for Peace is holding the unique
Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Day Ceremony for the 9th time this year. It is the largest peace event in the Middle East, attended by thousands every year. Israelis
and Palestinians mourn collectively for the bloodshed on both sides and vocalize hope for a just and peaceful future to be our destiny. See last year's ceremony at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZLPFn1qMCOg.
The event relies entirely on donations and volunteers. We are relying on the generosity of individuals like yourself and we kindly ask you to help us make this important event happen again this year. Your donation will help us ensure that everything is in place for this important ceremony.
The event has become increasingly important for both sides of the conflict, those who wish to acknowledge each other’s grievances and promote a dialogue of peace. We believe that joint pain and loss can break down walls rather than perpetuate them. We see remembrance as a bridge, not a barrier. We use it to send a clear message that there is no distinguishing blood from blood. The ceremony does not seek to blur our identity but to change our viewpoint: instead of entrenching pain and allowing grief and desire
for revenge to continue to oil the wheels of war, we seek to channel this grief into ending the killing. Together we remember the fallen and together we call for the choosing of a different path. The participants, bereaved family members from both sides, prominent artists and speakers call
together for the ending of the conflict using nonviolent means. We believe that on such a significant day we should be reminded that it is possible to create a different reality. Our experience and the systematic feedback we collect from people who attended the event, have taught us that the alternative ceremony is a powerful and effective transformative tool. For many people who take part in the ceremony, the event marks a significant turning point in the way they perceive the conflict, and in their active involvement towards resolving it.
Combatants for Peace, www.cfpeace.org , is a grassroots volunteer movement of some 600 Israelis and Palestinians who took an active part in the cycle of violence and now work together to end it in non-violent ways. CFP’s leading focus areas for 2013-14 are protecting the human rights of Palestinians and exposing Israeli policy makers, the media, and the general public to the situation in the West Bank. Our organization is based around five bi-national local groups, which operate on a weekly basis throughout the West Bank and Israel. We conduct public tours in the Occupied Territories; we initiate and participate in joint protest actions and peace rallies; we deliver community lectures and workshops; we help empower marginalized Palestinian
communities in the areas of agriculture, protection of human rights, preventing demolition of houses, community development and all forms of non-violent struggle. We advocate peace. We address both publics with the same message. The ceremony has enormous exposure in all forms
of media, nationally and internationally. The Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Event will be held at the
Israel Trade Fairs Center in Tel-Aviv, pavilion 10, Sunday, Memorial Day Eve, May 4th, 9:00 pm.
