At Peninsula Services we believe that adults with even the most severe developmental or physical disabilities can, and should, have the opportunity to learn skills and to find meaningful, productive employment within our community. We seek to achieve our mission in many ways. Through our Vocational Rehabilitation Dept., we work with persons with disabilities who are referred by a variety of sources such as DVR and DDA, that pay the associated fees. We work with these participants to ready them for employment, learn what jobs they want to do, assess what they can do, with or without adaptations. We work hand-in-hand with community employers to find or create suitable positions for our participants. Businesses learn how they can fill their employment needs with eager, enthusiastic and hard-working members of our programs. And our services are Free to the Employer. Work relationships between people with disabilities and mainstream community employers can benefit the business, the employee, those they work with and customers, too. At Peninsula Services, the vast majority of our direct labor employees are persons with disabilities. We promote the hiring of persons with disabilities and our military Veterans for all positions within the agency. All of the projects in the agency provide job opportunities for persons with disabilities, provide sites for assessment of our Vocational participants and also fund our mission. These projects include: Contracts for providing Grounds Maintenance throughout Naval Base Kitsap, as well as Commissary Shelf-Stocking and Janitorial services at both local on-base commissary stores. We operate two Servmart supply stores, one in Bremerton and the other in Oak Harbor, serving military and government entities worldwide by providing Ability One products and also selling some items to the community. Peninsula Services owns and operates ALL SHRED document destruction, with a shredding warehouse in West Bremerton and a mobile shredding truck that travels to businesses and homes throughout the area to provide secure and confidential destruction of sensitive documents. The warehouse is also an approved Washington State E-cycling site, accepting a variety of electronic devices for FREE, safe disposal, keeping them out of landfills.
