Eleven years ago the People's Market became the first, non-profit, Sunday, neighborhood farmer's market in Salt Lake City's west side neighborhoods.  Our mission was to provide the community with access to local, healthy and affordable food and entrepreneurship for local artisans.  With our laid back atmosphere and focus on fostering entrepreneurship in the community our goal is to build community pride and cohesion and provide an entry point for new entrepreneurs who are building their own business as well as provide access to fresh, local produce.

We made the change of the name and look of our Sunday market to 9th West Farmers Market, to better reflect our connection to the several neighborhoods in Salt Lake's northwest corner.  We hope our new name and look will enhance the quality of anyone's experience at the market and bring more people in to share great music, affordable local produce, and quality hand crafted and local made products in beautiful Jordan Park, near the International Peace Garden, on 9th west and 10th south.  We are counting on the generosity of any visitor to this site to help us fund this change.

In addition, we were the first farmer's market to accept SNAP benefits, and are waiting to here on a grant which will allow us to give SNAP users a matching $10 when they use their food stamp benefits at the market. It is a major part of our mission to make healthy, locally grown produce available to all who want it.  We keep our vendor booth fees low to encourage new farmers and backyard gardners with surplus to come and sell their bounty to those who need it most.

Not only do we hold the 9th West Farmers Market, but we have FREE community events such as our Seed Swap. This year, approximately 500 people attended the event, and left with seeds they wished to plant, training from local experts in seeds and planting/growing, and even soups, rolls, and cookies (made and provided by our board of directors). These events are open to the public and free to attend.

Another aspect of our market is our youth vendors. For $1 a Sunday, youths 17 and under can have a booth to sell the crafts they make or produce they grew. We love seeing the kids being involved, being creative and productive. In 2014, we had 9 different youth vendors, selling everything from wands to jewelry, pet bandanas to duct tape wallets.

We are a community oriented group and hope to continue being able to serve the community for years to come.
