"Before New Voices I was a shy and very quiet person, and now I am outgoing and I talk too much. Now I try new things and think differently than what I used to."

Founded in 1974, People’s Light serves as one of Pennsylvania’s largest professional non-profit theatres. We are known for our resident company of artists, eclectic mix of productions, and innovative work with young people.

Our work with the New Voices program began in 1990, with students from the city of Chester, and has run every year since. Throughout the year, People's Light provides full scholarships for students ages 5-18 years. Our van travels back and forth between Chester and Malvern, transporting our New Voices students for classes, rehearsals, and summer programs.

6th - 12th graders from Chester have a special ensemble experience, where they also enjoy group trips to People’s Light plays, one-on-one mentorship throughout the school year, and an intensive, year-long training and rehearsal process. They help to develop a full length original play, and then perform that play both at Chester City Hall and on stage at People's Light.

Through Main Line Gives, we aim to raise $3,000 toward this vital, meaningful program that makes a big impact on the lives of young people.

"It gives kids from this small city of Chester a chance to be bigger than what others expect."  - A 2018 New Voices student
