Philadelphia City Rowing

Philadelphia City Rowing was founded in 2010 based
on the principle that rowing teaches discipline, perseverance, and teamwork,
and works to reinforce these values and help student-athletes extend them to
all aspects of their lives. To this end, PCR has impacted the physical fitness,
academic success, college readiness, and general well-being of student athletes
in our after school programming and exposed hundreds more to the sport of
rowing through outreach and summer sessions.

Throughout the course of the year, PCR serves approximately
150-200 middle school and high school students. Our program offerings include
summer Lean-to-Row camps for high schoolers and middle schoolers, after school
programming for middle schoolers and our flagship competitive racing team for
high schoolers (year round). Open to all public school students, PCR aims to
engage students and their families; cultivate their interest in rowing; and
help them develop the academic, personal, and social skills necessary to be
successful in high  school and college. We offer swim lessons, subject
area and study skills tutoring, mentoring, college guidance, college tours,
nutrition education, healthy snacks, and a variety of enrichment and leadership
opportunities.

All aspects of programming offered by PCR—coaching,
equipment usage, race entries, uniforms and academic support—are provided
entirely free of cost to participants. Our multi-faceted programming leverages
staff, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and community partners to provide all PCR
student-athletes a wide variety of services and opportunities for development.
We believe that our successful framework can help young people lead healthier
lives, pursue paths to higher education, and reach their full potential.
