Raising Ready Readers

It’s simple: an individual’s success in life is directly related to literacy. For the school-aged children of Metropolitan Phoenix, summer presents a frustrating, even damaging setback.

Summer Slide does not just refer to a simple pause in learning during summer vacation. In fact, it refers to a measurable loss in competency that, according to the National Summer Learning Association, all young people experience without summertime enrichment. (National Summer Learning Association)

In response to this community need, Phoenix Public Library its popular Summer Reading Program. Presenters from Mad Science, Reptile Adventures, Great Arizona Puppet Theater and many more bring fun, interactive lessons directly to each of Phoenix’s 17 public libraries for 5 weeks during the summer. No matter their parents’ income, all children have the opportunity to have fun, learn, and meet friends without even leaving the neighborhood.

City of Phoenix tax revenue provides books, buildings and staff. But, it is private dollars from donors like you that support many of the essential programs and services, like the Summer Reading Program, that Phoenix Public Library is able to offer.

This April 9th, we invite you to join Phoenix Public Library in combatting Summer Slide. Give now to help the Friends of the Library sponsor Summer Programming at every Phoenix Public Library!

BONUS: Copperpoint Mutual will match your donation up to our $2,500 goal!

*Thank You Arizona!*

About Friends of the Phoenix Public Library

Founded in 1977, the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Phoenix’s public library system. We supplement funding for programs and services at the local library level where tax dollars cannot. We also organize the community to speak up for libraries when issues arise that affect their ability to deliver these essential programs and services to our community. Since FY 2001, the Friends have provided $6.7 million in supplemental funding to programs and services. Our mission is simple: to promote, enhance and expand the presence of the library for the benefit of the community.
