Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra

PYPO's mission is to foster a lifelong love of music in Pittsburgh youth. Musicians learn to excel and to express their musical abilities in an atmosphere of professionalism, creativity and enjoyment. Students are encouraged to appreciate classical and popular music and apply music's enormous force for the enrichment of society and intercultural understanding. PYPO also promotes a supportive learning environment by actively promoting a climate of respect for each student.

Admitted by auditions that take place three times annually, our entry level, intermediate, and advanced ensembles offers young musicians the opportunity to expand their musical skills in an environment filled with other talented musicians in one of the fastest growing youth orchestra in the region. The repertoire performed is richly diverse, with all the tradition of classical music combined with well loved popular, ethnic, and theatrical selections in arrangements used by symphony orchestras world-wide.
