We are doing all we can to provide the services that we believe District of Columbia communities deserve  but we need your help to keep that going so that we can help as many people as we can!  Please give what you can and tell others so that they can help too!  PIZZAZZ thank you in advance, for your kind contributions.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

PIZZAZZ works with youth, families and communities.  Our focus is literacy, obesity prevention and youth work-force development.

Since 2004, it has been our pleasure to provide programming to underserved DC residents and communities.  PIZZAZZ is a nonprofit organization that educates and provides training to low-income individual and communities using traditional and nontraditional approaches to improve the quality of their lives.  Our programming includes:

  • Pizzazz's Health Speakers Series: We educate the Ward 5 community about HIV/AIDS prevention and early intervention by presenting workshops to “tweens” (youth ages 9-13), parents, and the general population at the Caver Terrace Community Center.
  • Pizzazz's Tutoring and Dance Program (T&D): Since 2001, we have worked with over 500 youth and their families. We assist youth with homework, teach youth acceptable social skills and cooperation with others, and provide recreational activities. The dance component of the program provides tweens (youth ages 9-13)  with structured physical activities for obesity prevention in which participants learn artistic dance routines which they perform in parades and at special events.
  • Pizzazz's Tween Team Hip Hop: This new program, a T&D spin-off, which mainly focused more on the physical activity in 2010, grew to include the secondary culture of concern for obesity prevention which targeted the Latino population.  We teach hip-hop to our participants and give them an opportunity for performance. Long- term goals for this program include tutoring, mentoring and tween workshops that address their concerns.
  • Pizzazz's Parents as Partners Program: This program trains parents using a curriculum developed by NCLR and based on the Parent Institute in Quality Education model. Research shows that student achievement improves when parents are involved in their children's education, both at home and in their schools. We work with parents to help them with their kids.
  • Pizzazz's Write a Play/Write a Story Program: This Literacy Program is a powerful tool in improving literacy skills.
    • Write a Play involves group story writing and training by a professional team in all elements of theater: storytelling, music coordination, fashion, communications, computer skills, graphic printing etc. The play is produced online. All participating group individuals are credited with writing the play.
    • Write a Story employs group story writing where individuals build the story one sentence at a time until the story has an ending. The story is edited by a professional editor who works with group to assure that the story is valid and creditable. In the next phase, the group works with a professional team to copy write the story and finally it goes to publication. All participating group individuals are credited with writing the story.

HERE IS WHAT YOU HELPED US TO DO IN 2017:

As a result of your contributions, we recently completed visiting all 8 DC Wards where we performed pop-up dancing Flash Mobs.  This project was performed under our obesity prevention initiative.  We are happy to have met our goal to increase physical activity in each DC Ward. We are also glad that all District of Columbia participants really enjoyed the event and the incentive that we provided.  While producing this activity we partnered with Wanda Woman’s Work It Studio and DC area Fresh Farm Markets which make all the Flash Mobs spectacular!!!!
