Playworks Utah - LoveUT GiveUT 2014

We create a place for every kid on the playground. A place where every kid belongs, has fun and is part of the game.

Playworks is one of the only non-profits that has been proven to reduce bullying.

Just about all discipline-related problems in schools occur during lunch and recess. Instead of going back to class energized and ready to learn, kids return to their desks upset and unable to focus. We can change this.

How a kid experiences the entire school day fundatmentally impacts how kids learn. 

On our playgrounds, every kid gets a chance to have fun, contribute and be part of the game. Coaches encourage kids to bring out the best in themselves and each other, and kids learn the value of fair play, compassion and respect. And we teach the kids rock, paper, scissors - a game they use to settle their own disagreements.

Teachers say that their kids do better in school when they have a good experience on the playground. Principals say that kids no longer spend important learning time sitting in their office.

Teachers reclaim upwards of 21 hours of instructional time with a Playworks program.

On our playgrounds, kids become leaders, and some even become junior coaches. They run their own games and settle their disputes quickly – rock-paper- scissors, move on – because getting along is more fun than fighting.

On our playgrounds, kids play hard, cheer loud, and high five with joy, and it’s this feeling of peace and belonging that they carry with them into their classrooms, back to their neighborhoods, and out into the world.
