A donation of any size will help us empower people of all ages and backgrounds to voice stories through theatre!

The mission of Playwrights Project is to empower people of all ages and backgrounds to voice stories through theatre, inspiring growth and meaningful community connections. Our vision is to sustain an inclusive, compassionate community that broadens minds through the power of creativity and theatre.

Throughout it's 38-year history, Playwrights Project has championed individual voices, with a focus on uplifting underserved communities, including those who have experienced poverty, homelessness, foster care, immigration, substance use disorder, the justice system, and the military. Our programs include:

- In-school playwriting residencies for youth in grades K-12, including justice-involved youth.

California Young Playwrights Contest for Californians under the age of 19.

- Plays by Young Writers Festival featuring professional productions of winning plays from our Contest.

- Out of the Yard program serving individuals who are currently experiencing incarceration and returned citizens.

- Around the Block Playwrights writing group for senior citizens.

- Mosaic program featuring professional productions of scripts from within San Diego communities in the spirit of the Mo’olelo Performing Arts Company.
