Plymouth Area Historical Society

          The Plymouth Area Historical Society is at 7 East Main Street in Plymouth on the town square. It sits on the Richland and Huron county line. In fact Baseline runs right down the middle of town. It is the southern boarder of the Firelands.

          The museum was founded in 1984 during the "Project 1990" to improve the downtown business district. It was during that time that Mrs. Eleanor Searle Whitney McCollum donated the funds to get the present meeting room and all the remodeling done in the museum. She was born in Plymouth. Who left to have a very successful career in the music business both here in the states and abroad.

             We have 3 floors in the main building and a meeting room that can seat 80. It can be rented out for meetings and small parties. It has been beautifully restored to a grand room  with wallpaper, vintage looking carpet and a painted ceiling.

              As you enter the museum you will see our newest display. It is the State of Ohio Bicentennial Quilt of 2003 in a beautiful glass case. Also on display are people,events, industry,etc. important to this area.

             The basement"Garden Level" has primarily business and industry. Featuring The Fate,Root,and Heath Co.(F.R.H) ,2Plymouth locomotive,a Silver King tractor.  We have other items that are related to the F.R.H.Co.

            The second floor has multiple rooms that feature home life in the early history Plymouth and the local area. It also has a new military room that has on display local service members from WW I to the present. We are planning to update a lot of the displays and hoping by 2022 to have the whole museum with new and interesting local and surrounding history.

       The museum is  in a 1886 brick building. Not only is the building historical but all that is on display inside.

       We who are members and live here want to keep it up and running. But like all things money is the key.
