Polar Bear Foundation

NOW: During this pandemic the Polar Bear Foundation has partnered with New Hope Ministries for helping feed our students when school was closed.  We created 12, $500 Launch Grants to provide hope and funds for seniors whose families are financially affected by Covid-19.  Congratulations signs were designed, purchased and placed at the home of every senior to let them know their community is proud of them.  A program was created to Do Double the Good by helping local businesses and families in-need with a gift card program.

PREVIOUSLY: Prior to the shut down the PBF board approved a grant to purchase padcasters for the elementary schools to use for morning newscasts and video making. This past year saw robots in each of the four elementary Discover Labs. Students will begin coding and working with robots starting in kindergarten! High school students watched a live surgery via HD video conferencing at the Whitaker Center, the screen was 4 stories high and students could interact with the medical professionals. An elliptical trainer was added to the athletic department for rehab as well as PE classes.

FUTURE: A newly formed Vision Committee is working with staff from each level of education to identify needs and opportunities for learning and engaging. 2020-21 will be our first year of full-day kindergarten district-wide which means lots of opportunities and needs. The district is embarking on a significant turf field project through the PBF with an ambitious start date of this summer.
