Polyphony was born from a meeting of church musicians in Atlanta in 2007 who were looking for a place to call home musically and spiritually.
Our first conference was at the First Baptist Church of Asheville in 2008. Since then Polyphony members have come together for inspiration and information.
When the pandemic disrupted our lives, Kyle Damron and Doug Haney decided to bring together Polyphony members with bi-monthy Zoom calls to encourage and offer help as church musicians navigated everything from pre-recorded services to Zoom rehearsals and virtual choirs. Most of all, we simply wanted to support one another through the stress and strain of the pandemic.
These gatherings were so significant that there has been a renaissance of the Polyphony community. Polyphony Music Resources is now a 501(c)(3) and we are making plans for our second in-person conference in Nashville in 2023. Later this fall we will produce a research paper from phase one of "The Harmony Project," a research project initiative that is gathering data on what church musicians need to thrive in the 2020s.
