Portsmouth Aikido was founded in 1995 by Judy Ringer and a group of local residents interested in bringing Aikido to the New Hampshire Seacoast.  With the guidance and support of Mitsunari Kanai Sensei, a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, and the help of visiting instructors from his dojo (New England Aikikai, Cambridge, MA) and Portland Aikido, Portsmouth Aikido offered its first class in May of 1995.  Relying on our base of tradition, lineage, and excellent instruction, we have offered Aikido classes to thousands of beginning and advanced students from around the world.

In 2009, Ringer Sensei transferred her titles of Chief Instructor and Owner of Portsmouth Aikido to Aaron Cass.  Under Cass Sensei’s leadership, and with the help of Ringer Sensei and their senior students, Portsmouth Aikido transitioned into a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization.  Our hope is that with this new model we are better able to serve the New Hampshire seacoast community, continuing to expand our membership and offer excellent instruction.

A longstanding member of the United States Aikido Federation with strong connections throughout the Aikido community, Portsmouth Aikido looks forward to many more years of continued training, putting the principles of Aikido into practice on the mat and in our daily lives.

Portsmouth Aikido is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and any contirbution you make is fully tax deductible.  All you need is a credit card and your generosity.

Making a donation is easy -- just click the “donate” button on this page and you're on your way.  Any amount is helpful and we appreciate whatever you can give.
