Prescott House

We serve the Birmingham Div of Jefferson Co. Also provide services for Walker Co, AL. Founded in 1987 by retired District Attorney, David Barber. The services we provide are factual (forensic) interviews, counseling, and court education for child victims ages 3-18yoa. Partner agencies are local, state and federal law enforcement, department of human resources, district attorney`s office,medical & mental health professionals. Prescott House Child Advocacy Center is a child-friendly facility where children can talk about sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, or witnessing domestic violence or other crimes such as a homicide. Prescott House coordiantes the community agencies mentioned above that investigate, prosecute, and provide treatment and protection for child victims. Every effort is made to ensure that all cases of suspected abuse are thoroughly investigated yet conducted in a way to minimize re-traumatizing children. All services at Prescott House are offered at no cost to the child or their families. Prescott House staff members conduct forensic interviews while other team members observe on closed circuit television. Forensic Interview specialists/Counselors or social workers. Case managers and Victim Advocates work with each other to coordinate their investigations. Local law enforcement agencies as well as the ABI and FBI utilize Prescott House to assist in their investigations. Detectives are present during the forensic interview and watch on closed circuit TV. The state of Alabama requires the Department of Humnas Resources (DHR) to investigate any cases of potential maltreatment to a child. DHR Social Workers also join law enforcement officers in observing forensic interviews as they investigate the allegations and ensure the child`s safety. Under the direction of Brandon Falls, District Attorney of Jefferson County, a District Attorney liaison watches the interview. The Deputy District Attorney along with the other team members evaluate each case. Prescott House is a private, non-profit agency, relying on grants, fundraisers and private donations for funding. Prescott House has working agreements with our team members but is not a state, county, or city organization.
