Project-13 INC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to educating urban youth in Springfield and Holyoke, MA. Our primary programs are Springfield Commonwealth Academy, a college preparatory academy in downtown Springfield, MA, the Project-13 Drop Out Prevention Program, and OASIS Food Pantry in Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD COMMONWEALTH ACADEMY
Springfield Commonwealth Academy (SCA) provides each student with the opportunity to uncover their passion in life and shape their future through a college preparatory curriculum, extracurricular activities, entrepreneurial engagement, and community involvement.
An independent coeducational school, Sprinfield Commonwealth Academy is committed to enrolling low-income inner-city students of color in downtown Springfield.
With extended school days, Saturday school, and SAT test prep, our liberal arts curriculum and dedicated faculty prepare students for successful college careers.
The Tornado of June 1, 2011
The tornado of June 1, 2011, severely damaged our historic buildings and 14-acre campus. Slate roof tiles were torn from the rooftops and over eighty trees were destroyed.
While many historic renovations and repairs have been completed since the tornado, there is more work to do. We continue to renovate our school building and residence halls to their former grandeur while preparing young scholars for college.
PROJECT-13 Drop-out Prevention Program
The PROJECT-13 drop-out prevention program begins when scholars who are determined to be at risk for school drop-out enter the 7th grade, or approach the age of 13. This program intervenes three years earlier than traditional drop-out prevention programs in order to get students back on the right track before entering high school.
OASIS FOOD PANTRY
Launched in the fall of 2015, Oasis Food Pantry is an emergency food pantry located in the cafeteria of Commonwealth Academy. Oasis serves our neighbors in need every Friday night from 5-7pm. As a member agency of the Foodbank of Western Mass, we are working to end hunger in downtown Springfield. Springfield Commonwealth Academy students, staff, and other community volunteers collect, organize, and distribute food to one hundred households each Friday at Oasis.
