In 2009, I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. After a hospitalization, therapy, and countless doctor visits, I finally 'recovered' and ended treatment a little over a year ago. Still, the struggle lingers and the memory of what I went through will never leave me. While I was still in treament, about two years ago, I came across a People Magazine article on Project HEAL, which was founded in 2009 by two teenage girls, Liana and Kristina, while they were in treatment for their eating disorders. They knew the expense of treatment (which can be upwards of $30,000 a month) was something not everyone could afford; especially because most insurance companies refuse to cover what they deem a 'self-inflicted' disease. I, knowing I would soon be ending treatment, was eager to help others who were dealing with the dangerous, life-threatening disorder in any way I could. However, it was not until this past fall that I took the leap of faith, and started my own chapter of Project HEAL, Project HEAL San Jose.
