Millions of Americans, kids and adults alike, struggle with emotional, behavioral or cognitive challenges. Project Horse offers a unique environment for alternative therapy and experiential learning services to those that need it most.
With our talented rescue herd, licensed therapists and certified facilitators, we treat a broad array of disorders and issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, social skills deficit, substance abuse, selective mutism, mood disorders, and low self-esteem.
What makes Project Horse even more unique is that our client/horse interactions are on the ground - in other words, client and horse are on equal footing. That's where our horses make their most significant therapeutic impact, and that's where the most healing and personal growth occurs for our clients! (A happy benefit of our unique non-riding approach is that Project Horse is able to provide forever-jobs to many horses who would otherwise be tossed aside because they cannot be ridden safely, either due to physical abuse and injury or emotional baggage.)
As a volunteer-led organization, your donations help make our work possible!
Your generosity helps:
Our organization runs on the sweat, compassion and dedication of a group of wonderful volunteers. Some are full-time, most are part-time, but all are committed to fulfilling Project Horse's mission to help people and horses.
Project Horse volunteers give generously of their time and skills every day of the year. Please support our volunteers and help them continue this important work.
Penny is a rescued miniature horse who is now proudly serving clients both at the Project Horse Empowerment Center and out in the community as part of the Mobile Minis team! Penny came to us with major distrust of humans and wanted nothing to do with anyone. With lots of patience and persistence, by several of our volunteers, Penny has blossomed into a curious, quiet and caring therapy horse.
Penny works with a variety of special education students when she's out at schools with the Mobile Minis. She also excels in her work at our equine facility where she's often helping kids and adults learn to trust, especially those who have suffered trauma. Penny is a stellar role model in learning how to rewrite one's "scripts" and learning how to move upward & onward!
