Empower Her Voice: Invest in Women's English Class
$200 Raised
Founded in 2017, Project New Yorker's mission is to improve the livelihood of under-resourced immigrant women and youth by providing social and economic empowerment services required to achieve self-sufficiency.
Located on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, Queens – an area that is affectionately known as Little Bangladesh – Project New Yorker is an emerging learning center for the South Asian diasporic community, with a specific emphasis on Bangladeshi women and youth. We are one of the few organizations serving the Bangladeshi population in NYC and is entirely unique in Queens for the focused commitment to South Asian immigrants.
Bangladeshi population is among the fastest growing Asian ethnic groups in New York City. Relative to other NYC residents, Bangladeshi individuals are more likely to have limited English proficiency and more likely to live in poverty and/or in overcrowded housing. With this knowledge in mind, Project New Yorker has curated a unique set of services and programs to meet the specific needs of the Bangladeshi community.
At Project New Yorker, we envision a future where every immigrant living in New York City has access to robust educational opportunities. Regardless of immigration status, country of origin, or native language, our aspiration is to foster a community where learning empowers immigrants of all backgrounds to access their full potential in their new home. We strive each day to break barriers and bridge divides that otherwise keep opportunities out of reach. In our work, Project New Yorker aims to be a catalyst for positive change by being a go-to resource for immigrant families throughout New York City.
