Project Sheba

PROJECT SHEBA was started in 2002 in Los Angeles California by Miri Hunter. 

She moved to the Hi-Desert in the Spring of 2013.  The desert gave her time and energy to focus on her main work of developing programming for Project Sheba.   Since then Project Sheba/Thought Theatre has produced concerts, spoken word events and theatre events.  

Thought Theatre as it’s own entity was  started in 2017.  Its purpose was to promote theatre experiences that led to community discussions regarding local, national and global issues.  Its tag line is “enticing the mind to think.”  In its first year the company received seven Desert Theatre League Nominations in the categories of acting, writing, direction and overall production.  It also received eight Broadway World nominations.    In its second season (2018-2019), Thought Theatre continues to produced cutting edge productions such as “Particle of Dread,”one of Sam Shepard’s final scripts.

In addition to its theatrical productions, Thought Theatre has added programming for writers called Play by Playwrights, in which playwrights get to hear their words performed by seasoned actors before moving on to actual production.   

Project Sheba/Thought Theatre continues to grow in community involvement, and in addressing the needs of the community.  Our selection of plays as well as our casting and production team represent the uniqueness and the cultural diversity of the HI Desert community, which is our home.

As the organization grows, it looks towards  having its own dedicated building and creating its own institute  for in-depth study and learning of the performance arts and writing.  

The focus will be on using the arts as a bridge towards developing self awareness and empathetic connections with ourselves and with others.  

Being self-authored ultimately leads to a better understanding of self and of others.
