Project Sol Flower is a 501c3 nonprofit that grants bucket list dreams and experiences to young adults battling cancer or other life-limiting diseases. Project Sol Flower was co-founded by Kaydee Koch, a vibrant young woman who was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma when she was just 17 years old. During her 4-year battle with cancer, Kaydee noticed a gap in service for young adults ages 18-26 battling critical illness, and she became passionate about finding a way to give back and support this demographic.
Make-A-Wish and many other foundations support children under the age of 18, but there are very few organizations that cater to young adults. Kaydee knew her peers need a way to stay future-focused and positive during the difficult and dark days of battling serious disease, so she created Project Sol Flower. She based the foundation on the concept of granting bucket list dreams because of her own love of creating bucket lists. Kaydee’s bucket lists were always bold, colorful, imaginative and inspiring, just like the young woman who created them.
Kaydee chose the name Project Sol Flower to honor her inspiration Kylie, who loved sunflowers, and to include her Mexican heritage by using the Spanish word for sun. You can read more about Kaydee’s inspiration on our website.
