Promise Community Homes (formerly Rainbow Village Properties, Inc.)

Promise Community Homes is the largest provider of specialty housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the region. The organization provides an array of housing services for adults with disabilities - affordable, specialized, stable and safe accommodations; preventative maintenance for the entire structure and parcel of land; emergency repairs; and renovations when necessary to allow each unique resident the opportunity to age in place. Through these services, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are able to live and thrive through the stability and dignity that comes with having an affordable and safe place in which to call home.

In order to provide such services, Promise Community Homes acquires, owns and operates over 80 houses throughout the counties of St. Louis, Jefferson and St. Charles as well as in the city of St. Louis. With the organization taking on the financial burden of mortgages, to ensure an affordable, controlled environment, adults with disabilities and their families do not worry about keeping a roof over their head for the rest of their lives.

In addition to taking on the financial burden of a mortgage, Promise Community Homes shoulders the annual fiscal burden of maintaining a home, costs for renovations, modifications for access, everyday repairs and emergency repairs any time of day or night. To sustain these important structures, Promise Community Homes maintains houses throughout the year by correcting areas in the home damaged from the wear and tear of everyday life such as unclogging a blocked toilet or sink, fixing heating/cooling system or dishwasher; making necessary improvements to allow for the activities of daily living with ease or without concern for injury such as installing ramps, rails and changing flooring, and changing handles so those in wheelchairs can reach items more easily. And, all of this is so adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live independent, dignified and meaningful lives - the absolute right of every human being.
