Protect Our Lakes Non-Profit

Our mission at Protect our Lakes (POL) is to bring awareness and attention to the importance of protecting our lakes, reservoirs and waterways through service and education.  Our goal is to provide accurate information about water conservation (desert, drought, slow the flow), cleaning up/ protecting the waterways (How contaminants, whether it be dog waste, spills, trash, plastic, etc. effects the water we all use to drink and recreate in.) and getting people actively involved in service and leaving it better than you found it.  

Our organization specifically helps Summit County residents via our support at the Jordanelle Reservoir/State Park.  POL pays for signage reminding people to pick up after themselves, dog waste stations and general waste bag/stations.  POL also pays for the annual subscription for the web cameras that provide a free feed to the public throughout the park so that anyone accessing the Jordanelle State Park website can see conditions around the lake and the park live.

In addition, POL has an annual cleanup day, most recently on Sunday, September 17 at the park. We provide everything needed for volunteers to pick up trash/waste around the park including gloves, waste bags, waste grabbers, sanitizer, snacks, drinks and sponsored volunteer t-shirts and sunglasses! This year our many volunteers cleaned up over 100 pounds of trash around the lake, park and campground as well as divers in the water!

Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow our organization to other chapters covering other bodies of water. To do this we need to continue to educate, spread awareness that littering is an ongoing problem through education (social media, web pages, media) and by getting our hands dirty and actually doing the hard work of cleaning up.  We want to set a good example for the next generation to always leave it better than you found it!
