There are more than six million public school children - one in eight students nationwide - in California today. Yet, California ranks close to the bottom nationally in terms of per pupil spending, staffing, infrastructure, and test scores. This is not merely a critical public policy issue, it is a violation of our children's rights under the California constitution.

Public Advocates is litigating on behalf of the Campaign for Quality Education, a statewide alliance of grassroots, civil rights, policy and research organizations. Our case asks that the court declare the current funding system unconstitutional and order a new one that aligns to the actual costs of delivering state standards to all California's diverse students.
