Pulaski County Animal Control/Shelter has been proudly serving the local community for over 20 years. While we primarily care for cats and dogs, we also welcome a wide variety of animals including rabbits, ducks, chickens, pigs, and more! Our mission is to improve the lives of animals and citizens in our community through compassionate animal care and responsible animal control.

A shelter environment involves many moving parts, with ongoing tasks that are essential to daily operations and the well-being of every animal in our care. Your donation helps provide daily food, safe shelter, enrichment, and necessary medical treatment for the resident animals at Pulaski County Animal Control. Every dollar ensures these animals receive compassionate, quality care while they await their forever homes.

In addition to caring for the animals within our shelter, Pulaski County Animal Control operates Pulaski Animal Wellness Services (PAWS), a low-cost spay, neuter, and vaccination clinic led by Dr. Trina Murphy. This program extends our impact into the community by providing affordable veterinary services and education to pet owners. By supporting PAWS, your donation helps reduce overpopulation, prevent suffering, and improve the health and well-being of animals throughout Pulaski County and the New River Valley.

The PAWS clinic serves not only our citizens who cannot afford full price veterinarian services but also the feral cat colonies to help reduce and stabilize populations and keep both the animals and citizens of the New River Valley safe and healthy. This year we are hoping to expand our low-cost clinic to provide more affordable spays, neuters, and vaccines to both our shelter and community. Here at the PAWS Clinic, we are able to provide the opportunity to help animals live the healthiest life they can. The average cost of a spay in a typical clinical setting in Virginia is $145-$700, not including vaccines. At PAWS, thanks to community donations and grants, we are able to offer spays/neuters for $75-$100 including a rabies vaccination. We also have two funds to help with community cats as well as Pit/Pit Mixes to lower that cost even more to $25-$35, including rabies vaccine!

Thank you for your continued support in our mission and for helping us provide life saving measures for the voiceless in the NRV.  We could not do this without you.
