Prevention Works! A Community Coalition of Clallam County (a non-profit 501c3 organization) has worked diligently for 21 years promoting positive childhoods so that all children in Clallam County thrive. We've done that by:
- Offering hundreds of excellent quality professional trainings to thousands of parents, caregivers, community agency staff, law enforcement, school personnel and others. In the last three months alone, three outstanding, well attended workshops were offered on Developing a Young Child’s Brain, Developing the Teen Brain, and Compassion Fatigue & Burnout for Caregivers!
- Acting as a catalyst by emphasizing coordination and collaboration of prevention strategies – we have worked to initiate and facilitate programs even if we don’t end up running them – like Child Check, universal screening available for all Clallam County children 18 months to age 5 at no cost to families and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in the Quillayute School District. We were the initial sponsor of Mind in the Making Mini Parenting Messages now sent to 1,500 families weekly and most recently have initiated a Child Care Community Task Force to increase availability of licensed child care throughout our county, currently in a serious shortage.
- Acting as an advocate for prevention by informing the public and community of prevention research, community activities and grant opportunities through our Weekly PW! Update that reaches over 450 residents and a website that has an up to date Directory of Early Learning options in the county and a Facebook page, full of helpful information for parents.
Help us to continue this great work! Together we can work to strengthen our community and help our families thrive!
