Pennsylvania Yankee Theatre Company Inc

A nonprofit organization

Founded in 1978, The Pennsylvania Yankee Theatre Company's ( PYTCo) mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing theater experiences and education to promote participation, appreciation and understanding of the art.  Each year, PYTCo produces productions with actors ranging from 5-75 and hosts a youth camp each summer. Since 2004, PYTCo as been working to revitalize the Historic Sampson Theatre. Located in Penn Yan, NY, the Sampson will be a vibrant cultural and community space for the arts.  Named one of The Landmark Society's "Five to Revive" , The Sampson is a rare surviving example of a vaudeville/movie house. Built in 1910 and listed in the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the Sampson Theatre was the center of activity in Yates County. Once open, the Sampson will be the permanent full time home for PYTCo's performances. The Sampson will also be available for rent by touring companies, for local businesses and schools to utilize for meetings and ceremonies. The Sampson will open again for showing movies. Community rooms will be available for use by local civic and nonprofit organizations. As audiences come to the Sampson, the economic vitality of downtown Penn Yan will be enhanced. This theatre will provide construction jobs during the rehabilitation and 3-5 full time jobs once the theatre is open. The economic stimulus will help local businesses attract and keep employees.
