REAP is the only statewide organization in Alaska that is solely dedicated to clean energy education and advocacy. The organization's primary activities includes K-12 STEM education to increase energy literacy, a variety of efforts and collaborations to enhance community capacity to plan for, install and maintain clean energy systems, and public policy engagement consistent with REAP's mission. REAP's messaging focuses on the fact that clean energy is always local, creates jobs, diversifies the economy, and keeps precious energy dollars circulating in the state.
REAP works with a variety of partners including the organization's 60+ member organizations (comprised of renewable energy developers and businesses, conservation and consumer groups, electric utilities, Alaska Native entities, local governments, and educational institutions), dozens of communities, state and federal agencies, universities, national laboratories and a variety of NGOs in other states. Through the Sustainable Southeast Partnership, REAP staff work with a diverse range of partner organizations to increase resiliency and holistic community development in small, mostly Alaska Native communities in the region. Through the U.S. DoE's Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project (ETIPP), REAP works with partner organizations in six regions of the United States to bring technical assistance from four national laboratories to remote communities across Alaska. Through REAP's Alaska Network of Energy Education and Employment (ANEEE), REAP facilitates regional collaborations among diverse entities across the state to increase the human capacity to operate, maintain and optimize 21st-century energy technology in small, remote Alaskan communities.
"I have a great deal of respect for the people at REAP. They have been tenacious advocates for maximizing the potential for renewable energy in Alaska."
