The Education Foundation plans activities designed to promote Richland Northeast High School to the community and showcase the best of what Northeast has to offer. Every year, the Foundation plans Faculty Follies, an event where the sillier side of school, the edgier side of education, and the funnier side of faculty is shown. Faculty are invited to perform and showcase their own talents to the rest of the student body and to the surrounding community. This event raises money for the different scholarships given to Richland Northeast students in order to allow them to attend academic field trips and events that benefit them and in turn, benefit the school. The foundation also hosts 'Dinner and a Show,' an evening of good food and even better entertainment provided by the talented students in the Palmetto Centre for the Arts Theatre program at Richland Northeast. This gives the opportunity for the students to show off the performances they work hard on all year, and also acts as another fundraiser that supports the giving of scholarships to other students. The Foundation also supports the administration of the school by having monthly meetings and discussing school events, needs, and administrative goals. Through the partnership between the school and administration, their collaborative efforts resulted in our Principal, Dr. Sabrina Suber, receiving the distinction of "National Principal of the Year" given by the National Conference on Magnet Schools.
At Richland Northeast High School, Student Senate plays a pivotal role in shaping the day to day activities of the school. From planning pep rallies to diversity events, RNE Senate helps boost school spirit and morale, while also promoting civic responsibility and leadership for all students. Senate is comprised of elected representatives from all grade levels, 9th through 12th, and meets weekly to plan different events for students and the surrounding community. Senate is divided into 6 committees, publicity, leadership, outreach, recreation, community service, and school spirit and service. All of these committees work toward improving the school and giving back to the community while address the different needs of an effective student government, and are adapted to fit the specific needs of the Richland Northeast Student Body.
Senate undertakes the majority of school-wide events, from planning to execution. Within the surrounding area, Senate has organized Trick or Trunk for community children, facilitated Families Helping Families for the underprivileged in the Northeast Columbia area, and hosted different walks, runs, and awareness campaigns for different local issues. Within school, Senate has represented the face of Northeast to incoming Freshmen at Fresh Start every year, planned pep rallies to highlight different sports teams and organizations, and given students a spotlight in the Miss and Mr. RNE pageants. In addition to these events, Senate has also been included in various efforts to emphasize the already diverse Northeast student body and bring attention to the issues that concern students through partnerships with campaigns such as Hate Won't Win.
The work of RNE Student Senate has been recognized several times over through regional, state, and national awards for works within Richland Northeast and within the surrounding area. As a member of the South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC), Northeast Senate is part of the 4A Student Council rank, placing us in a very competitive rank with other student councils in South Carolina. Within the Association, we were recognized as a SCASC Gold Honor Council at the most recent State Conference in Easley, SC. In addition, several members of our Student Senate have been inducted into the SCASC Terry McCoy Hall of Fame.
South Carolina Association of Student Councils District 4 Chair Kennedy Perry, explains that Richland Northeast is a very international, and diverse school: "Richland Northeast allows you to view the world through different cultures and aspects from both teachers and students who are from all different countries." She also gives advice to upcoming cavaliers that they should get involved. RNE has so many programs to offer may it be from Model UN, Student Government, sports, or even the Anime Club. Kennedy expresses her experience as Freshman Class President and wants everyone to be apart of the core values that are heavily important and reflected in all student activities...
