To interpret the life and legacy of Rachel Carson in relationship to her childhood home using the following principles: * Live in harmony with nature * Preserve & learn from natural places * Minimize the effect of man-made chemicals * Consider the implications of human actions of the global web of life. To preserve and protect the childhood home of Rachel Carson utilizing the highest standards of historic preservation, interpretive and sustainable practices.

We present volunteer-led tours, environmental education programs and workshops on the site of the historic Rachel Carson Homestead. The site includes the four-room historic house, a self-guided trail, and gardens planted with Pennsylvania native plants in pesticide-free cultivation. The homestead is a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rachel Carson Homestead is a station on the National Heritage Trail sponsored by the Rivers of Steel Heritage Area, and the National Park Service.The weekend tour schedule is on www.rachelcarsonhomestead.org.
