Rainbow Acres

Founded in 1974, Rainbow Acres has blossomed into a state-of-the-art community with modern, beautiful homes and the Palmer Community Center on a 27 acre campus. Approximately 100 residents, called Ranchers, live and work on the ranch, with 30 new openings coming available by 2015.

Each Rancher has a private bedroom and each house has a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room and relaxation area, as well as a suite for Caregivers.

The Health and Wellness Center, staffed with nurses and a medical records clerk, monitors all Ranchers and addresses their fitness and health needs.

Vocational Training, Worden Lifelong Learning Center and Computer Lab, Greenhouses, Crafts and Painting rooms, Stepping Stones creation and the onsite Weaving Studio all enhance the daily lives of Ranchers and empowers persons with developmental disabilities to live to their fullest potential with dignity and purpose.

Primary enrichment programs include Total Equine Training at Rainbow Acres (TEtRA), Clavinova Connection music therapy, Neurodevelopmental Therapy, and Fine Arts Painting classes.

Palmer Community Center provides a commercial kitchen and central dining area for congregate meals and a beautiful hall for special events. Daily Prayer Circle, monthly Prayer and Praise services, Fine Arts Series professional entertainments, dance and aerobics classes, a fitness center, and speech therapy are additional options offered in the Palmer Center.

Those with developmental disabilities are among the most vulnerable segments of our population. They are often overlooked or, worse yet, abused. Rainbow Acres is a safe and loving environment that allows such individuals to gain self-esteem and reach their potential.

Rising costs of food and transportation have increased the operating costs of Rainbow Acres. Many families are unable to pay the entire cost of keeping their special loved ones in this special place. Some Ranchers have outlived their families. Need for some or most of their fees to be supplemented by donations and charitable contributions has risen from about 30 percent to over 60 percent of the Ranchers.
