A doctor. A Family. A book. A simple solution that starts with reading aloud. Reach Out and Read-Alabama reaches 110,400 families every year distributing 160,000 new books annually. Last year with the 10-year anniversary of the program, more than 300 of our pediatricians prescribe books each day knowing the value of our role in preparing children for school. The value of our program goes much further than just the book. “When we prescribe a book to a child, the parents and/or caregiver understand the value of the written word and together can experience language development.
