Reconciliation Outreach Ministries

A nonprofit organization

Reconciliation Outreach provides comprehensive faith-based programs designed to end the cycle of poverty for neighborhood children, youth and families. The after-school program serves at-risk children from kindergarten to fifth grade, and the youth program serves inner-city youth ages ranging from 13-18 by providing mentoring and one-on-one tutoring. The summer camp program serves ages 5 through 18. Reconciliation Outreach also provides affordable housing for the working poor who need to rebuild their finances in a safe environment to become self-sufficient members of their community.

During the school year, we serve three elementary schools including Cesar Chavez Learning Center, Peak Preparatory, and East Grand Preparatory. We provide transportation for the children from their schools to Reconciliation Outreach, and the children receive a hot meal daily. For those parents who are unable to pick up due to work obligations, we transport their children home.

We work with parents and teachers to ensure homework is complete, including any special assignments the child might have. We also have daily chapel time, teaching life applications and building character through Christ-centered teaching.

Our academic tutoring program has demonstrated success, raising the grade point average of all regular attendees. The children's academic progress tracked during meetings with parents and teachers. We also review the children's report cards to monitor grades. The children receive special recognition for good grades, and we work closely with parents and teachers to ensure the children are receiving instruction needed to help them achieve their goals.

Reconciliation Outreach is in Old East Dallas, a high-crime neighborhood which has thirty per cent higher rates than the national averages. More than half the population are Hispanic, and approximately 20 per cent do not speak English well, or at all. Twenty-seven per cent of residents are foreign-born, and almost 50 per cent have less than high school education.

By providing tutoring, homework help, and mentoring, Reconciliation Outreach is working to prevent the likelihood that these students will engage in delinquent behavior and increase the likelihood that they will stay and thrive in school.

Our Needs

Our current space for the youth program is not large enough for the blossoming youth outreach, which with your support last year we were able to hire an additional summer youth director. This year we are believing God for a new community center located on Bryan Street. With your support, we can remodel this property into a community center and coffee shop that not only the teenagers will be able to work and fellowship in. It will also be a light to the community, creating jobs and continuing to transform lives for many more generations. Join us in our mission to continue to transform lives in East Dallas!
