Located off West Lakeshore Parkway just 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham, Red Mountain Park is a mountaintop park that provides a variety of recreational opportunities at the site of the city’s first iron ore mines. Long dormant after the closing of the last of its mines during the late 1960s, the master plan for Red Mountain Park presents an ambitious vision for developing one of the most exciting and historically significant new park projects in America.

Currently, Red Mountain Park has over 12 miles of public multi-use trails, built by dedicated Volunteers and Staff. The Red Ore Zip Tour and the newly opened Kaul Beanstalk Forest are exciting destinations...and generate revenue for this fiscally-sound urban greenspace. Remy's Dog Park (a 6-acre, off-leash destination) will open Fall, 2013.

This is only a small portion of what is planned for the 1,200-acre park. By 2018, Red Mountain Park will offer more than 30 miles of ADA handicap accessible trails.  Beyond the abundance of recreational opportunities, the Park also opens the door to the natural and cultural history of Red Mountain.  Spectacular overlooks and glimpses of a large number of historic mining structures are an important part of the visitor experience!
