Robert Reed passed away in 2002 after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer.  Because of this experience the family committed themselves to finding a cure to this deadly cancer and other GI cancers, including stomach, colon-rectal and esophageal.

In 2005 the Robert E. Reed Gastrointestinal Oncology Research Foundation was established in Birmingham, Alabama.  Since its inception the foundation has been raising funds to provide ongoing support for world-class GI cancer research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, under the direction of Martin J. Heslin, M.D., Professor of Surgery, and Director of the Integrated Multidisiplinary Cancer Care Program at UAB.

The Reed Foundation proactively provides a direct stream of money to the Surgical Oncology Research labs at UAB, keeping all funds local and focused, as well as financially supporting patient care initiatives.

Before Mr. Reed passed away he asked his sons to please try to "Finish the Fight."  This has become the  "motto" of the Foundation.  Hundreds of supporters and corporate sponsors have come on board to assist with enormous fundraising efforts, which in turn have allowed the foundation to aggressively support their mission of finding a cure.   The Reed Foundation goal is to one day be able to say, "We have Finished the Fight."
