Food Forest Program!
Each year, the ReGenerative Roots Association raises fruit trees at our nurseries in Nashua & Weare, NH that are planted in orchards and food forests around New England with collaborative partners! In 2025, we are raising 500 apple, pear, peach, and cherry trees that will be planted in community orchards in NH, ME, MA, and VT! The ReGen Roots Food Forest strengthens food security in New England through the local action of planting trees! Learn more here- https://www.regenerativeroots.org/food-forest.
Five hundred apple trees can produce up to 100,000 pounds of healthy food for 50+ years-resulting in multi-generational impact!
ReGen Roots Community Farms!
ReGen Roots currently manages a community farm in Hudson, NH where we provide land, educational opportunities and business guidance to multiple refugees and new/beginning farmers to grow food in a positive environment. In 2025, ten refugees are estimated to grow 15,000 pounds of healthy food, with the only requirement to use space that 10% must be donated to local organizations addressing food insecurity such as the Nashua Children's Home and the Nashua Soup Kitchen!
Healthy Food Pantry!
Each year, ReGen Roots receives over $200,000 worth of food that would otherwise go to waste from Whole Foods & Trader Joes that would otherwise go to waste which is distributed to 100+ food insecure households with the help of collaborative partners including the Nashua United Way & the Nashua Center. This helps provides households with a consistent supply of healthy food!
Farm to School Programs
ReGen Roots also manages farm to school programs at Nashua High North and Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH that teach students about the importance of local food systems and agriculture through hands-on learning opportunities. Now in its eighth year, hundreds of students have been positively impacted by this programming!
ReGen Roots Seedling Share & Healthy Food Drives
And don't forget about the ReGen Roots Seedling Share program where high-school students grow tomato and pepper seedlings that are subsequently distributed to hundreds of members of the NH community with collaborative partners such as Dartmouth Health, Nashua YCMA, Enterprise Bank & Club National. We then hold healthy food drives where the seedling recipients are able to give back some of the fresh vegetables to support other people who cannot grow healthy food themselves! In 2024, we distributed 3,500 tomato seedlings to 400 members of the community!
The ReGenerative Roots Association is building a resilient and equitable food system in the Greater Nashua area by developing community farms and associated farm to school programs. We currently manage over five acres of community farm land at two sites in Hudson, NH, with three programming focuses:
1. Community Farmers Program- For the past four growing seasons, we have provided refugees and immigrants from Burundi, Honduras, and Zambia land and needed resources to grow their own food, thereby helping them to achieve food security while positively interacting with their new community. In 2021, multiple families are tending to over two acres. Our goal is to help them grow over 10,000 lbs. of corn, beans and tomatoes this year;
2. Young Farmer Incubator- Young farming entrepreneurs are provided land, resources and business guidance to open their own successful local businesses. The average age of a farmer in America has been steadily growing older, and currently stands at almost 58! We need to help nurture the next generation of farmers. This year, we are helping William Goulding from Gate City Farms, LLC and Juliette Enfield from the Garden Gym, LLC to grow their businesses (literally!);
3. Summer Internship- This is the fifth year we are offering a summer internship focuses on sustainable agriculture to local high-school students. Dozens of students have benefited from this program.
The only requirement to utilize the community farmers and young farmer incubator programs is that 10% of everything grown must be donated to a local organization dealing with food insecurity such as the Nashua Children's Home and the Nashua Soup Kitchen. To date, we have donated over 2,500 lbs. of food to these organizations.
We are also helping to develop sustainable agriculture and farm to school programs at Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH...
