Bears Ears National Monument in Southern Utah is the culmination of five Native American tribes coming together in an unprecedented way to preserve their sacred lands for the nation. These lands are not only sacred to tribes, but to white settlers, tourists, recreationists and environmentalists. It's a land that speaks to all of us about the spiritual and mythological connections we have to each other and to the earth, not only in Utah but across the nation.

Repertory Dance Theatre's celebrated SENSE OF PLACE initiative continues with a new commission by choreographer Zvi Gotheiner titled "SACRED LANDS/SACRED WATERS" which will premiere in October 2017 in Salt Lake City. During the development of this remarkable work which begins in May, both RDT and NYC-based ZVIDance will convene at the Monument to meet with representatives from the 5 tribes and to experience firsthand what makes this land sacred to all of us.

Two dances will emerge, one with each dance company, and both will premiere in their respective domiciles of NYC and SLC, before touring back to Southern Utah and beyond.

Help us elevate this project from New York to Utah to celebrate preserving the Bears Ears National Monument and the land that as a collective we call "home."
