Richmond Elementary School (RES) is a Pre-K through 4th grade public school in the small community of Richmond, Vermont.  Richmond is also the home to Cochran's Ski Area, one of Vermont's gems.  Cochran's is a nonprofit small ski area that is the home to the legendary ski racing family, the Cochran's.  Barbara Ann Cochran won the gold in women's slalom in the 1972 Olympics and was inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame in 1976.  Barbara Ann still coaches local kids to ski and ski race at Cochran's afterschool program.

This winter RES piloted a ski/snowboard program at Cochran’s that we named Snow Motion, promoting life time fitness and increasing opportunities for physical activity in and out of the school day.  Snow Motion is free to scholars and occurs during the school day to eliminate barriers created by lack of equipment, transportation, disability, and other factors. Currently, nearly 50% of our student population has never been on the slopes.

Our plan is to establish an annual community-based fundraiser that will bring the RES family together in support of teaching kids to be active for life, while making skiing/snowboarding accessible to every child at RES.

On Monday, June 9th, RES will hold the

1st Annual RES Get Up and Move Day, a festival of fitness with a walk-a-thon, field games, music and fun.

Our great new PE Director, Mr. Godfrey (or "Mr. G" to the scholars) needs your help!  Our GOAL is to raise enough money through the Get Up and Move Day, to allow every scholar at RES to participate in the Snow Motion Program at Cochran’s.  Money will also go towards creating opportunities for scholars to learn to golf as part of the First Tee Program that we are piloting this year.  Any extra money we raise will go towards updating P.E. equipment.  All money raised will stay in Richmond to help local kids and to support local business.

There are almost 300 scholars at RES. Together we can make this program a reality.  Just imagine the positive benefits bringing our community together to support physical activity will have on every child in Richmond.  As a school and community we are letting kids know that being active is important, and no child will be left out.

We want to keep our efforts both positive and safe, so ask that no familes do any door to door fundraising.  Instead we are asking family and friends if they would like to help support our efforts. Any amount will help!  Checks can be made out to Richmond Elementary School Note: Walk-a-Thon and sent to the school at anytime.

Donations can also be made directly online through this website.

Thanks for your help in making our dreams a reality!
