Resident Services Corporation (RSC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the lives of DeKalb County residents through community-based problem solving and neighborhood-oriented strategies that promote self-reliance and long-term self-sufficiency.
RSC has developed localized strategies and programs that underpin the economic stability, health, and well-being of the individuals and families we serve. Our objective is to build a foundation for personal success by providing our participants with targeted programming and services that assist them in overcoming barriers to economic stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Our goal is to break the cycle of generational poverty with programming and services designed to affect positive change in the lives of our participants whereby they are ultimately self-sufficient and no longer dependent upon economic assistance.
RSC is a catalyst for change, impacting lives by supporting families as they work towards becoming self-sufficient and working with the broader community to create solutions for the challenges of generational poverty.
We know that sometimes secure housing is simply not enough for residents to lift themselves out of poverty, stabilize their lives or age in place with dignity and choices. It often requires a little extra help for families and seniors to create a brighter, more stable future for themselves.
RSC initiatives provide a platform for success for participants through programs and services that help them achieve their individual goals. We support participants to identify goals and priorities and develop strategies by facilitating participants in finding and accessing services through referrals and on-site programming that foster positive outcomes.
Poverty is a community issue that requires attention and care from the full community. Multiple inter-related factors contribute to poverty. Breaking the cycle of poverty requires solutions that link safe housing, health care, childcare, education, and job skills that will help participants build a stronger future and earn a livable wage. As low-income families work to overcome their circumstances, they face the paradox of “The Cliff Effect” as they lose subsidies that provide critical assistance. The reality of this keeps people from being able to move off assistance programs as families working in low-wage jobs make insufficient income to satisfy the cost of living. Therefore, to become self-sufficient, families must work multiple jobs and build adequate savings to have a cushion to help them overcome unexpected expenses.
RSC provides a hand-up to low-income individuals who want to help themselves achieve long-term self-sufficiency and/or remain self-reliant.
Families, Youth, and Children: Promote supportive education and leadership development opportunities that will empower individuals and their families to be productive and self-sufficient. Primary program goals include the following:
Aging and Disabled Persons: Promote quality programs, self-advocacy, and supportive services to enhance the quality of life and empower individuals to maintain their independence and age successfully in the community. Primary program goals include the following:
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, donations from philanthropic individuals and foundations are vital to RSC's work. We need your help to provide services that impact the lives of low-income families and help to break the cycle of poverty. High-impact donations will help ensure we deliver long-range programs that support individuals and families in becoming successful.
