ResilientMe Inc. (TAPAZ)

A nonprofit organization

ResilientMe engages, educates and empowers youth to successfully transition out of foster care and into adulthood. We ask youth to identify their unique strengths and talents by asking them "What is your superpower?"

In Arizona, there are more than 19,000 children in foster care without typical childhood experiences that provide the self-sufficiency skills, family support, and community networks they need. Because of these and other disadvantages, these young people experience poor life outcomes at a much higher rate than the general population: The statistics for youth aging out of foster care are distressing:
• More than 20% will become homeless after age 18
• Only 58 percent will graduate high school by age 19
• 71% of young women are pregnant by 21
• 25% will be involved in the justice system within 2 years of leaving the foster care system
Resilient Me is a research grounded, trauma sensitive prevention program. Aging out of foster care can be one of the most traumatic events of a young adult's life. ResilientMe is founded on the belief that in order to give our aging-out population a chance at being successful adults, we must equip and prepare them to handle the challenges they will face as adults. Equipping youth with these skills will prepare them to successfully transition into adulthood. They will be able to set and understand how to achieve realistic goals. Youth will have an increase in self-efficacy. This improves the likelihood that they will live happy, healthy, successful and resilient lives.
