Founded in 2005 by a group of mental health counselors, Returning Veterans Project (RVP) provides no-cost, confidential mental and physical health care services to Veterans, Service Members, and their Families in Oregon and SW Washington. We help bridge the gap in health care services during the VA benefit waiting period, if participants prefer a provider outside the VA system or if they aren’t enrolled at all, and we break down additional barriers to care that include fear of reprisal, cost, stigma, and overwhelm by family separation and reintegration. We assist individuals and families with issues connected to service-related trauma such as moral injury, PTSD, anxiety, depression, military sexual assault, relationship challenges, physical disability, suicidal ideation, and more. 

RVP maintains a network of Volunteer Health Providers offering a variety of options for care including mental health, drug & alcohol addiction, chiropractic, naturpathic medicine, massage therapy, and more, and participants are not limited to just one Provider or modality of care. They may access as many of our Volunteer Providers as they choose and seek assistance for as long as needed. Care is timely, confidential, and free, and is also available to families who may not have access to Providers that understand challenges faced throughout the military life cycle. We are not affiliated with the VA or other government entities, referrals and authorizations are not required, and we don't ask for health insurance. The majority of those requesting services are post-9/11 Veterans. 

During 2023, we provided 2,854 hours of care to 343 individuals in the military community: 287 Veterans, 10 Service Members, and 46 Family Members including 7 children. We have provided care to over 4,000 individuals since opening our doors in 2005.
