Richey May Cares Foundation

The Richey May Cares Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) Not For Profit that is affiliated with Richey May & Co LLP a certified public accounting firm in Englewood, CO. Our foundation is dedicated to volunteering and helping those in need within our Colorado community. Recently, one of our own members has needed our help. Here is the story and what you can do to help:

 

Carter, the son of Jeff who is a Richey May employee, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in April of this year at only 18 months old. He began chemotherapy immediately in hopes to shrink the softball-sized tumor in his abdomen. The chemo was not working as the Doctor's had hoped and it continued to affect Carter's appetite and overall well-being. He was deteriorating physically and had no energy to play like a normal toddler. At one point, he needed to have a feeding tube to ensure that he was getting enough nutrition. After realizing that the tumor was not shrinking with the chemo, the Doctors decided to remove the tumor since Carter was doing so poorly. He had the tumor removed in May which weighed about one pound. The removal of the tumor was the first step in the healing process and shortly thereafter, Carter's energy returned and he started playing again and gained his appetite back. He was able to gain enough weight back to remove the feeding tube. He maintains chemotherapy session and has also undergone one month of radiation. His family is hopeful he will complete treatments by the end of the year.

 

To help support Carter during his battle, Kathryn, a fellow Richey May employee, is running the Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on October 19th to raise awareness and funds to offset medical expenses so that Carter and his family can focus on what is important - a full recovery for Carter. Carter is an amazing little guy with a determined spirit who has already overcome more than most of us in just his few years.
