Rise Above Poverty Reading Clinic

In March of 2021, Rise Above Poverty launched a free reading clinic to help young students in the Syracuse City School District reach third-grade reading level.

"Millions of American children get to fourth grade without learning to read proficiently, and that puts them on the high school dropout track. The ability to read by third grade is critical to a child's success in school, life-long earning potential and their ability to contribute to the nation's economy and its security." (KIDS COUNT,  The Annie E Casey Foundation, 2010)

Students have already seen improvements in their word recognition, reading fluency, and comprehension.

One student shared that her favorite part is when her teacher reads aloud at the end of class and that she loves coming to the clinic.

A grateful parent said her daughter "...enjoys the program, and she is so excited to learn!"

A district teacher excitedly called the parent of one of our Reading Clinic students to share  the remarkable improvement between her fall and spring assessments.

Please help our Syracuse City students reach third-grade reading level by helping fund the Rise Above Poverty Summer Reading Clinic.
