Rise Resource Center Inc

The mission statement for RISE Resource Center, Inc. is “To provide a facility and resources which support educational choice.” .This mission sums up the dream of all four founders, which is to create a facility similar to a community center, but one that is supportive of alternative forms of education. The facility would provide space for much needed educational and social activities for those who pursue any type of education. It would also provide mentoring and support for parents as they seek nontraditional educational experiences

 

From it's inception, RISE was run out of it's founders homes. Art classes, preschool co-op classes, science classes and Individualized Family Mentoring, were all done out of homes. While that met some needs, it was very limiting in the number of students who could participate, and did not offer any stable office space or office hours. Without a facility, we were not able to fulfill our mission statement.

 

In October of 2011, RISE entered into a lease agreement for a shared space within a local church. We have a dedicated Office/Waiting Room/Toddler Playroom, access to 5 classrooms, use of the kitchen, a playground, outdoor grassy areas, a large covered outdoor space and use of the parking lot. While RISE is not a faith-based organization, we are grateful for this opportunity to have a location, grow, and reach out to the community.

 

RISE is now the first facility in the Las Vegas valley with meeting space or classroom space designated for students pursuing nontraditional education. With over 6,000 homeschooled students and over 10,000 charter-schooled students in the valley, a facility was sorely needed to hold educational and social events.

 

RISE provides many services for the community. 

• First, we offer Individualized Family Mentoring which informs parents about all of the educational options available for their children in the Las Vegas valley. Public school, private schools, charter schools, and homeschooling options are all gone over to find the perfect fit for that family. 

• Then, should the parent choose to homeschool, they are invited to attend a series of introductory homeschool classes to mentor them as they start their new journey. When a parent chooses to homeschool we understand they need support and encouragement.

• RISE also provides supplemental classes for all students.  Parents and members of the community are invited to offer classes for children of any age in any topic of interest or specialization.  Class enrollment may be limited or open to the entire community depending on the desire of the teacher. 

• RISE offers homeschool groups a much needed place to meet together outside of their homes and inside from the weather.  This has been a need for the homeschool community and continues to be a bigger and bigger need as more families choose to homeschool.

• RISE provides space for workshops, seminars, classes and events that will benefit select groups of people or the community as a whole. 

• RISE reaches out to the community through hosting various events and activities that are open to the public.

 

 

We have structured RISE Resource Center, Inc. to have a Board of Trustees and a Board of Governors. At present, we have a CEO, an Executive Vice President of Operations and an Executive Vice President of Programs, all of whom are accountable to the Board of Trustees. Our paid staff is zero. Currently RISE's CEO, EVPO & EVPP are volunteering their time. RISE utilizes other volunteers and interns for the remainder of our needs.

 

We are funding this venture primarily through private donations and fundraisers. We are seeking private grants as well. We are striving to find donors who feel as strongly as we do that educational options should be open to all.

 

While our dream includes a much larger space, we have chosen to start up in a smaller building that will serve our current needs. We would like to raise enough funds to fully equip the building and it's programs, and eventually be able to expand into a larger facility of our own. After opening our own dedicated facility we would like to open satellites throughout Nevada and even nationwide.

 

Together, we know that we will have a positive impact on our community. We will showcase that parents have a choice in their child's education, and they have help.
